COAST

Dive Sites Guanacaste · Pacific Ocean · Costa Rica

World-class dive sites, incredible marine life, and year-round conditions — all accessible from Playa Potrero with Under The Sea Diving.

Guanacaste diving is unlike anything else in Central America, and most people who come here for the first time leave wondering why it took them so long to find it. The Pacific off this coastline runs deep and cold in the dry season, pulling up nutrients that feed everything — manta rays with a wingspan in excess of 20ft, bull sharks cruising the drop-offs, whale sharks passing through on migration, eagle rays in formation, sea turtles on every reef. The volcanic rock formations that define the dive sites here create the kind of underwater terrain that keeps experienced divers coming back — arches, caves, pinnacles, walls, and strong drift conditions that demand respect and reward skill. November through May brings peak manta ray activity, while the warmer June through October season is when the bull sharks show up in numbers that are genuinely hard to believe until you've seen it firsthand. This stretch of Pacific coastline sits inside one of Central America's most seriously protected marine corridors — Santa Rosa National Park has been a protected reserve since 1971, and the conservation work happening in these waters, from manta ray tagging to reef monitoring, is real and ongoing. The marine life here is thriving because people have been fighting to protect it for decades.

The Pacific Difference

Big Animals. Volcanic Reefs. Unmatched Biodiversity.

The waters off Guanacaste are unlike anywhere else in Central America. Nutrient-rich upwellings, volcanic underwater geology, and a position along major Pacific migration routes make this coastline a magnet for large marine life. From our base in Playa Potrero, Under The Sea Diving runs guided expeditions to two island chains consisting of 35+ dive sites that define the region.
